Report: Justin Schultz narrows shortlist to five teams
Free agent defenceman Justin Schultz has narrowed his decision on who to sign with down to five teams, according to TSN.
The list reportedly consists of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers.
Schultz was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2008 draft. After spending three seasons playing hockey at the University of Wisconsin, Schultz decided to leave the University and begin his NHL career.
Following Schultz's departure from school, the Ducks had a 30-day window to sign the young defenceman, but they were unable to. Now, Schultz is a free agent and has reportedly submitted his list.
The 22-year-old led all NCAA defencemen in scoring with 44 points in the 2011-12 season. Schultz will only be eligible to sign a two-year entry level contract. According to capgeek.com, with the base salary, a signing bonus and performance-based bonuses, Schultz can earn as much as $3.77 million.
